Database Application Services

Mission

The mission of the Database Application Services department is to plan, implement and maintain integrated central and distributed information systems and associated databases that support the business needs of the University. These systems include the Administrative applications that support student, finance, and human resources, datamarts that support official and end-user reporting requirements, and decentralized systems that support budgeting, sponsored programs activity, instructional support, telephone billing, and other University applications.

Goals

  • Provide effective technical support for the implementation of SCT Banner Finance in July 2002 and of SCT Banner Human Resources in January 2003. In addition to the normal technical support associated with implementing an integrated ERP, this effort includes the re-engineering of existing workflow applications to integrate with Banner, the implementation of Web for Executives and appropriate datamarts, as well as the modification of the Oracle Financial Analyzer to interface with Banner Finance. Also plan and work collaboratively with the other departments in Technology Systems and all members of the Patriot Project team to ensure project success.

  • Despite the workload of the Patriot Project, continue to support legacy IA Administrative Applications and a large variety of databases, modifying systems as requested to support federal, state, and University mandates and ensuring systems are available as scheduled 95% of the time. Also continue to provide a high level of support to distributed academic and administrative applications.

  • Provide technical consulting and project planning assistance to the Advancement Office as it seeks to identify and select software to meet its needs.

  • Develop transitional web-based grading processes and pilot in Spring 2002 and, if system capacity permits, implement transitional webGMU registration and tuition payment applications.
